Mold Inspection and Indoor Environmental Testing on Staten Island

Staten Island's older housing stock, basement-heavy homes, and proximity to tidal wetlands create conditions where mold, moisture, and air quality problems are common — and where an independent inspection matters.

Oasis Indoor Environmental has been serving Staten Island homeowners, tenants, and property managers for nearly 20 years. We test. We report. We don't remediate — so our findings are never influenced by the cost of the work that follows.

What Brings Staten Island Residents to Us

Staten Island's housing mix runs from century-old colonials in St. George and New Brighton to mid-century ranches in Tottenville and newer construction along the North Shore. Across all of it, the pattern is the same: moisture finds a way in, mold follows, and homeowners are left trying to figure out who to trust.

We hear from Staten Island clients when:

  • A musty smell in the basement or crawl space won't go away despite cleaning
  • Visible mold has appeared after a plumbing leak, roof issue, or flooding event
  • A family member is experiencing unexplained respiratory symptoms or allergies
  • A landlord's remediation contractor says the problem is resolved, but the smell remains
  • A home sale or purchase requires a clear, documented environmental assessment
  • An HPD mold violation needs independent clearance testing

Whatever the trigger, the answer starts with an inspection — not a guess and not a sales pitch from someone who profits from finding a problem.

Every Service We Provide in This Area

From a single-room mold concern to a full commercial IAQ investigation, our team brings the same licensed, credentialed approach to every job on Staten Island.

Our Services on Staten Island

We provide the full range of indoor environmental inspection and testing services across Staten Island. Every engagement is assessment only — we have no remediation division, no contractor referral fees, and no financial stake in what our testing finds.

Mold Inspection and Testing

We conduct visual inspections, moisture mapping, air sampling, and surface sampling to determine whether mold is present, what species are involved, and where the moisture source is driving growth. Results are documented in a detailed written report — clear enough for a homeowner to understand, thorough enough to hold up in a legal or insurance context.

Post-Remediation Verification

After a remediation contractor completes their work, an independent clearance test is the only way to confirm the job was done correctly. We return to the property, collect air and surface samples, and issue a post-remediation verification report that documents the outcome objectively.

Lead Inspection and XRF Testing

Staten Island's older residential neighborhoods include significant pre-1978 housing stock where lead paint is a real and documented risk. We provide XRF lead paint testing, lead hazard and risk assessments, and clearance testing for renovation projects and compliance requirements. Our inspectors are EPA-certified and our reports meet the documentation standards required by landlords, property managers, and city agencies.

Indoor Air Quality and Odor Investigation

Sewer gas, VOC off-gassing, formaldehyde from new construction materials, and post-fire smoke contamination are among the air quality concerns we investigate. If something in your home smells wrong or a family member's health has changed without an obvious cause, an IAQ investigation can identify or rule out an environmental source.

Why an Independent Inspector Is the Right Starting Point

The New York State Mold Law requires that mold assessment and mold remediation be performed by separate licensed entities. That legal separation exists for a reason: a contractor who profits from remediation has a structural incentive to find and expand a problem. We have no such incentive. Our only job is to tell you what is actually there.

That independence matters at every stage:

  • Before remediation: you get an honest baseline, not a quote dressed up as a finding
  • During a property transaction: buyers and sellers both get documentation they can trust
  • After remediation: clearance testing from an unaffiliated inspector carries weight that self-reported completion does not
  • In a dispute with a landlord or insurer: a report written to litigation-ready standards is the difference between a complaint and a case

Nearly 20 years of serving the NY metro area means we have seen every variation of the problems Staten Island properties present. We know what normal looks like here, and we know when something warrants concern.

Common Questions from Staten Island Clients

  • How do I know if I need a mold inspection or just a remediation contractor?

If you haven't had an independent assessment, start there. A remediation contractor can tell you they found mold and quote you a price to remove it — but they cannot give you an unbiased picture of whether the problem is large or small, what species are present, or whether the moisture source has been addressed. An independent mold inspection gives you that baseline before any money is spent on remediation.
  • Does Oasis serve all neighborhoods on Staten Island?

Yes. We inspect properties throughout Staten Island, including St. George, Stapleton, New Brighton, Tottenville, Great Kills, Annadale, Richmond, and all points in between. If you're unsure whether we cover your specific location, contact us and we'll confirm.
  • How long does a mold inspection take, and when will I get the report?

Most residential inspections take one to two hours on-site, depending on the size and complexity of the property. Laboratory results for air and surface samples typically return within two to five business days, after which we compile and deliver your written report. We walk you through the findings personally — you won't receive a data sheet without context.
  • What if my landlord already had someone come out and says there's no problem?

A vendor hired by your landlord is not an independent party. If you have reason to believe the assessment was incomplete or the results don't match what you're experiencing, you have the right to commission your own inspection. Our report is issued directly to you and documents findings to a standard that can support an HPD complaint, legal proceeding, or housing court matter if needed.
